Back from Salone del Mobile 2025: What Inspired Me Most This Year
I just got back from Milan, where I had the joy (and visual overload!) of spending a few days immersed in the world of design at Salone del Mobile 2025. This year’s edition was an absolute feast for the senses—cozy, tactile, full of warmth and soul.
So I wanted to share with you, fellow design lovers and professionals, what stood out to me the most. Not just in terms of trends, but in feelings, colors, and those little moments that reminded me why I fell in love with interior design in the first place.
The Reign of Travertine
Travertine was everywhere. From statement dining tables to minimalist shelving and sculptural lighting, this ancient material is having a beautifully modern comeback.
And not just in its typical beige: I spotted subtle peachy tones, creamy whites, and honed finishes that looked and felt luxurious. One particular table had such a smooth texture that I ran my hand over it three times like a total nerd (but hey, texture matters!).
A Warm, Earthy Color Palette
Color-wise, this year was a warm embrace. Think: mocha mousse (yes, like the dessert), terracotta, chocolate brown, and burnt sienna—paired with petrol greens and deep, dusty blues.
These tones were layered together in matte lacquers, plush velvets, natural linens, and even in glass and ceramics. The effect was grounding and serene. One showroom even matched the color mood with a custom woodsy scent in the air. Total sensory alignment!
The ’70s Are Back—And Softer Than Ever
Rounded, chunky forms dominated the scene. Sofas, chairs, coffee tables—everything looked and felt soft.
There’s a definite return to 1970s aesthetics, but without the kitsch. It’s all about comfort, curves, and proportions that feel generous and inviting. One modular sofa I sat on felt like being wrapped in a giant plush cloud. A visitor next to me whispered, “it’s like a marshmallow with legs,” and I couldn’t agree more.
Reinventing the Classics
A lovely surprise this year was the number of heritage pieces being reissued. But rather than simple reproductions, many of these icons were reimagined with new finishes, materials, and colors—paying homage to their past while making them feel right at home in the now.
It was like meeting an old friend who’s had a glow-up.
Outdoor Is the New Indoor
Outdoor design continues to blur the line between interior and exterior. Sofas that could belong in your living room. Coffee tables in natural stone. Weatherproof fabrics that feel like velvet.
The message is clear: terraces, patios, and gardens deserve as much attention—and style—as our interiors.
The Rise of Hyper-Customization
If there’s one word to sum up Salone 2025, it might just be personalization.
Brands are pushing the envelope in offering fully customizable options—especially when it comes to upholstered pieces. From choosing the exact armrest angle, to mixing piping colors, to adjusting cushion density, clients can now create pieces that truly reflect their style (and ergonomics).
I even had the chance to “build” a sofa on an interactive tablet and see it projected in the showroom using AR. Honestly, it felt like playing The Sims—only real.
Final Thoughts
Salone del Mobile this year felt like a celebration of tactility, individuality, and emotional connection to space. We’re moving towards environments that are not just stylish, but nurturing. Comfort, nostalgia, nature—all beautifully interwoven.
If you went too, I’d love to hear what inspired you most! And if not, I hope this little recap gives you a dose of Milan magic from wherever you are.
Stay inspired,
Ilaria
